Hey buddy,
thanks for the kind words... I'll let you in on a little secret. You caught
us in time of transition. I was just re-designing the web-site, and we are changing
hosting companies. It will be up in about a week or so. I'll e-mail you when
it's up. We have very few shirts left, what size are you looking for. They
are a bit larger than normal, I usually wear medium shirts, and I wear the
ODDJOB small. And Ian usually wears large shirts, and he wears the ODDJOB
medium.
Why'd you buy 2 copies of issue #3? Just kinda ODD don't you think?
The movie, eh? well I'm in the final stages of post-production. We'll have
updates and more info over at www.spiral-city.com.
We're looking to be finished completely in April.

Tyson,
Hello, my name is Ryan Tatum and I came across your
site [www.hihat.com and www.spiral-city.com] and was amazed. I was wondering what program you use the most to design
on the computer, do you scan art then work with it or is it completely done on the computer?
I am really looking forward to doing more stuff on the computer but I need to get some examples of work done on
the computer. I have the skills to draw and illustrate but I want to know what I should learn (programs) and what
clients look for.
Thank you for your time,
Ryan Tatum

Thanks for the kind words... The program I use almost
exclusively is Adobe Illustrator 8.0, I think there is a 9.0 out now. I used to draw sketches then scan them in
and use them as a template, but after a few years I have it down so I might draw a rough, rough sketch to get it
worked out, then I go to the computer and just draw it. So now it’s completely done on the computer.
The programs you should learn how to use Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop, then for page layout look into Quark
XPress, and if you want to get fancy try Painter, or Flash. As far as what clients look for, I don’t think you should
do what you like best, catering to what clients like might land you a job, but you’ll find it is much harder working
on a job you don’t care for.
I urge you to remember that drawing on the computer is not style in itself, don’t get caught into using the cheesy
computer tricks and gradients. The computer is a tool just like a pencil, a brush, or a pen.

Ty and I love mail! Please send us more! I like to spread my letters out on my bed,
and roll around on them, sometimes throwing them up in the air and cackling loudly until one of my roommates pounds
on my door.
Oh yeah, we also edit for grammar and spelling, just so y’all won’t look like idiots...
